Welcome to the Missouri State Council of the International Reading Association (MSC-IRA) web site! The mission of MSC-IRA is to actively promote a higher level of literacy of all citizens of Missouri. We are a nonprofit organization with a membership of over three thousand classroom and pre-service teachers, reading specialists, librarians, administrators, and university instructors. We are woven together by a common thread that has a strong desire to impact the lives of learners to be life long readers. Although we are mostly an organization of educators, our membership is open to anyone who is desires to make a difference in the literacy of Missouri citizens.
MSC-IRA is an affiliate of the International Reading Association. There are more than thirty local councils throughout the state actively working at supporting our mission and goals. Our membership includes a bi-annual professional journal, The Missouri Reader, and a tri-annual on-line newsletter.
Our annual state conference is an exceptional avenue for current professional development. Available to MSC-IRA members are scholarships and grants. We take pride in acknowledging those who exemplify effective and outstanding reading programs through the annual Missouri Exemplary Reading Award. Additional awards are given to businesses and councils who also excel with outstanding contributions to reading.
