President’s Message

Welcome to the website for the Missouri State Council of the International Reading Association! We are very excited about all that is happening in our state council. The state officers and various committee members have volunteered many hours to make this a valuable resource for literacy educators.

First, the new website went live the first of the year. We are hoping to provide effective, frequent communication to all members about what is happening within the council.

Second, MSC-IRA has partnered with Educational Solutions International and other professional organizations within the state to provide you with quality professional development experiences. Be sure to read about the Write to Learn Conference coming in March and the Primary Conference to be held in November. You will learn from some of the leading researchers and practitioners in the field of literacy education. You may want to visit with your administration now about attending these excellent professional development opportunities.

Finally, we offer two meetings a year for local council officers. The first was in September and the next will be June. This is a wonderful opportunity to network with other literacy professionals exchanging ideas about what is going on in your area. In addition, MSC-IRA will provide ideas of ways to build your membership, ideas for meetings, and guest speakers.

As you can tell, MSC-IRA is a vibrant, evolving organization that can provide you with many benefits. We hope you decide to join our group and share in these opportunities.
